Interview with Catlea: Pumping Up the Vibes with “Bones”

Pump It Up Magazine sat down with the rising indie-pop sensation Catlea to talk about her latest track, “Bones,” and her journey as an artist. With its groovy rhythm, heartfelt lyrics, and genre-blending sound, “Bones” is sure to pump up your playlist. Here’s what we asked:

Pump It Up Magazine: “Bones” has such an infectious energy and heartfelt message. How did you come up with this unique blend of genres?

Catlea: First of all, thank you so much! To be honest, when I was writing ‘Bones’ it wasn’t so much that I consciously decided “I want it to be this specific cocktail of genres,” as much as I just wrote the song and knew what I wanted it to sound like. I’ve never been the type of person to sit down and go “I am going to write a pop song today.” I just write, and whatever genre that happens to fall under is fine with me as long as the song sounds the way I wanted it to in my head.

Pump It Up Magazine: The lyrics are so raw and relatable. How do you approach writing songs that resonate so deeply with listeners?

Catlea: I just write songs that I resonate with in some way and trust that others will relate as well. I find that, since there are so many people on this planet, there’s never a shortage of people who will understand both what you’re going through and how you feel about it. It’s just about finding those people, a bit like shooting a flare into the sky.

Pump It Up Magazine: Releasing “Bones” on Halloween is such a cool move! What inspired that timing?

Catlea: Well if it isn’t obvious from the skeleton and tarot cards on the cover art, I have a bit of an inclination towards that kind of theme! I figured it was a good day to release the song for a couple reasons though. 1. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and ‘Bones’ is one of my favorite songs on the album, 2. I wanted the release date to be something memorable that fit the energy of the song’s art and my vibes as an artist in general.

Pump It Up Magazine: Your previous songs, like “Like Me” and “Crumbling,” have racked up millions of streams. How does “Bones” take your sound to the next level?

Catlea: Ooh, good question! I think the simplest answer is time and patience. ‘Bones’ was the last song I wrote and recorded for the album, and it was written honestly a good chunk of time later than the rest. Over time, we all improve at the things we put our minds to. Whether it be a hobby, a career, or just a recipe you want to perfect, you’re going to get better through the act of trying and through the passage of time. ‘Bones’ is a sign of growth for me, not just in terms of singing, production, and lyrics but also with the message the song conveys. Sure it’s about not being able to get over someone yet, but it’s also about knowing that you will at your own pace.

Pump It Up Magazine: With its groovy bassline and empowering vibe, “Bones” is a perfect feel-good anthem. What do you hope fans, including our readers, take away from it?

Catlea: I hope that anyone who listens to ‘Bones’ is empowered in some way to give themselves a break. If you’re struggling with getting over someone or something, it’s okay. You will get there. Let yourself feel all of those confusing, contradicting emotions and know that you’re going to come out on the other side.
